This work follows the story of a child whose mother had died long ago and was being raised by a cruel uncle. When a group of people on vacation finds the abused boy on an island off the coast of Maine, they set out to rescue him. The theme of faith in God runs throughout the novel, motivating the vacationers to help the poor boy have a better life.
